DORCAS WOMEN’S CELEBRATION SET UP: APRIL 30
Help is needed from the men on Tuesday, April 30 at 2:00pm for set up.  Also, on Wednesday, May 1, for men to help serve and clear up for our celebration festivities.

STEWARDSHIP CONFERENCE: APRIL 20
You are invited to join with Pastor, elected leaders, and all lay leaders on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 8:30am to 2:00pm here at St. John Church, to take part in “Biblical Training” and the assessment of our congregation’s stewardship culture. (Acts 2:42 “… they devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayers.”) More information and sign-up sheets are in the Narthex. Please register. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Registration will allow us to practice good stewardship in providing food and drink.


LWML ZONE 1 SPRING RALLY: APRIL 20
The LWML Zone 1 Spring Rally will be held on Saturday, April 20, from  9am-11am at  Lutheran Chapel of the Cross, 3353 S. Whitnall Ave. A special presentation will be given by Deaconess Grace Rao about the ministry of “A Place of Refuge” for WOMEN who have experienced PHYSICAL OR
EMOTIONAL ABUSE, or are seeking help to keep a WANTED PREGNANCY
rather than ABORTION. If you are able, “Gifts From the Heart” will be collecting: “All” or “Tide” unscented laundry detergent, unscented “Bounce” dryer sheets, and select-a-size paper towels.

ABBAFAB: AT THE SOUTH MILWAUKEE PERFORMANCE ARTS CENTER

PROJECT CONCERN’S ANNUAL 9-PIN TAP BOWLING FUNDRAISER

Project Concern’s annual 9-pin tap bowling fundraiser will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at South Shore Bowl.  Join in the fun and support the pantry!

ST. JOHN CHILD DAY CARE AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER
How can you help?  Come read stories to the children, or share a talent with the children (play an instrument, play a special game, do a cooking activity, etc.). You can share your knowledge with the children (occupation, cultural, ethnic, etc.). How about helping by fixing broken equipment or donating items from the donation tree. Any of these ideas can bring interesting new information to the children, or suggest something that you would want to do to help out.  Contact Karen at 414-482-0554.


VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED - ST. JOHN DAYCARE VAN DRIVERS
Day Care is seeking 1 to 2 volunteers to drive the van in the mornings (7:45am8:30am), to take children from Day Care to Cudahy Schools, and also to pick up from schools in the afternoon (2:00pm-3:30pm), and bring to our Day Care. Volunteers must have their driving record on file in the Day Care Office.  Karen Erickson our Day Care Director can submit your drivers license number to the state. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Are you willing to help?  We are in need of Ushers to help at funeral services that are held at St. John.  The duties to be performed can be easily explained, and walked through with you.  If you are interested, please contact the Church Office.
 
We also need someone to go through the church pews, making sure that the pencils are sharp, the prayer & attendance cards are available, etc.  Please contact CynDee in the Church office if you are willing to help with this.


HEALTH AND SCHOOL KITS FOR MISSIONS

Showing MERCY opens doors to tell about Jesus.  Victims of tragedies need the essentials of life. Impoverished children need supplies to learn.  Our St. John LWML will be donating: 53 SCHOOL KITS: each with a drawstring backpack filled with 4 notebooks, 1 ruler, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 pair blunt scissors, 5 pencils, 5 ink pens, 1 box of 24 crayons, and 1 large eraser.  15 HEALTH KITS: 2 bars of soap, 1 sturdy comb, 1 toothbrush, 1 metal nail clipper wrapped and tied inside a large bath towel.  Thank you to all who donated items or cash for these kits.

2024 INSTITUTE ON LITURGY:  JULY 9-12, 2024
The LCMS will host the 2024 Institute on Liturgy, Preaching and Church Music at Concordia University Nebraska, in Seward, NB in 2024.  The theme will be “Songs of Deliverance: Psalms in the Great Congregation.”  Participants will be able to choose from a variety of instructive and interactive sessions addressing practical topics of interest to musicians, pastors, teachers etc.  More information, including how to register, will be available soon at: lcms.org/2024-worship-institute.

A PLACE OF REFUGE (APOR) For Pregnant Women & Preborn Children Refuge House is a safe place that provides a loving, nurturing environment for women and their preborn children.  Refuge House encourages women to make positive changes in their lives that will offer opportunity, direction and hope for their futures.  APOR seeks to contribute to the mental, physical and spiritual growth of women facing an unplanned pregnancy.  APOR  has been sharing God's love since 1993, one mother at a time.  Check the display in the Fellowship Hall for ways you can share with and support APOR.  Playpen for donations is located in the Narthex.


CUDAHY/ST. FRANCIS INTERFAITH PROGRAM
The Cudahy/St. Francis Interfaith Program for Older Adults (CSFI) is looking for older adults that want to help and/or connect with other older adults, or if any older adult needs help with things around the house.  People can sign up for our companionship call/visit programs if they would like calls or visits periodically, or if they would like to make calls or visits to other older adults.  Please contact Pat Mull at Cudahy/St. Francis Interfaith program at 414-483-4474 for more information.

LCFS
Are you wondering what LCFS is, and what they do?  LFCS is Lutheran Counseling & Family Services of Wisconsin. They work year-round to assist those struggling with mental health and addiction.  In addition, they work diligently to bring families together through their adoption program, help to heal relationships and improve family dynamics, give hope to those suffering from trauma. And to meet a strong, growing need in our community, they continue to expand mental health services to children through our inschool counseling program and through expanding our in-clinic child therapy services.  We give thanks for all the healing that they provide.

(on the bottom left of home page).  Even if you have never set up an account, this is the time to do it!  Sign in, go to the home tab, my profile, and make sure the info St. John has is up to date.  Many people have gotten rid of their land lines and now only have a cell phone, or have a new email address, or even moved and haven’t told us!  You can even see where you are with your giving for the year.  We want to be sure to stay in touch, so please check out the web page, and then make sure we have your current info.


WANT TO BE INVOLVED AT ST. JOHN?
There are many ways you can get involved.  Volunteer as an Usher, Altar Guild, Serve Coffee, Handyman jobs, Weeding the flower beds, Vacuuming, join a group or board and the list goes on.  (Especially needed: Altar Guild and Ushers!)  Please call the Church Office (414-481-0520) if you can to help.
